Marion (Rose) Baptista, 91, formerly of Homer Street, Newport, died Thursday, May 24, 2012 at the John Clarke Retirement Center on Valley Road in Middletown. She was the wife of Manuel J. Baptista. Born in Newport on April 8, 1921. She was a daughter of the late Manuel and Fanny (Gibbons) Rose.

Marion and her husband were avid campers. They spent over 28 years traveling to Florida every winter, enjoying life and living in the warm Florida sunshine.

Besides her husband of 70 years, she leaves her daughter, Christine Vieira of Las Vegas, Nevada, her son Joseph J. Baptista and his wife Anne of Middletown, R.I., granddaughter Catherine Linares and grandson Christopher Vieira, both of Dudley, NC. She was the grandmother of the late George W. Vieira, IV, and mother in law to the late George W. Vieira, III and Carol Baptista.

At the request of Marion, her funeral and burial will be private.
