David L. Fink

Lt. Colonel David L. Fink, USAF, Ret., 93 of Middletown, died Tuesday, August 7, 2012. He was loving husband of Marion Fink. He is also survived by his step-children Diane Stefanski and husband William, Denise Lynch and husband Paul; Mark Daniels and wife Gale; and his eight attentive grandchildren: Kyle, Kasey, Kendra Stefanski, Heather, Brian, J.R. Lynch, Lee and Matt Daniels.

Born in Providence, he was the son of Zelig and Rebecca Fink, brother to Marion Kaufman, Molly Young and Morris Fink, all deceased. David grew up on east side of Providence, attended Hope High School, and graduated R.I. State College in 1942.

In 1942 he enlisted as a Private in Army Air Corps and trained at Scott AFB as radio operator. He was assigned to Page Field, Fla. for gunnery training where he attained rank of Sgt. He was chosen to attend flight school at Randolph Air Field, Texas and commissioned in May 1943 as Second Lt.. Next assignment was the 99th Bomb Group Tinian, Marianna Islands for combat missions over Japan. Relieved from active duty in 1946, he joined his father’s business, The Zelig Upholstery Shop.

Recalled to duty in 1950(Korean War) he was assigned to Yakota Air Base, Japan with SAC. Relieved from active duty he was assigned to Air Force Reserve at Westover AFB, Mass. After serving a total of 31 years in the Active and Reserve of the U.S. Air Force he retired with the rank of Lt. Colonel.

David was the president of Southeastern N.E. Chapter of Military Officers Assn. of America and Director of Retiree Activities Naval Station Newport for many years.

A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held Friday, August 10, 2012 at the R.I. Veterans Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter, RI at 10am.
