Dorothy

Dorothy 'Dot' Knaggs Wilson, age 77 of Newport, RI died Monday September 24, 2012 at Village House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Newport, RI.

Dorothy was born and raised in the 5th ward section of Newport on Narragansett Avenue. She was a 1952 Graduate of Rogers High School.

Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 59 years Charles R Wilson Jr. of Newport. Dorothy and Charles were married in St Augustin's Church in Newport. Dorothy is also survived by her Daughter Nancy Wilson Oakley and her husband Steve Oakley of Portsmouth, RI, her son Rob Wilson and his wife Cheryl Wilson of Bristol, RI and four grandchildren, Rachel Oakley Blomstedt of Bristol, RI, Steven Oakley Jr of Natick, MA and Zachary and Zoe Wilson of Bristol, RI.

Dorothy retired as a branch manager of RI Hospital Trust/Fleet Bank after more then 34 years of service. She was a devout parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Newport since 1956. Dorothy was very involved in Church activities and charities including the St Vincent DePaul Society, volunteering in the weekly soup kitchen and counting weekly budgets after Sunday masses. She was also a member of the Newport Lady's Ancient Order of Hibernians. She was a volunteer for the Newport National Little League for a number of years and a Cub Scout den leader.

In retirement, Dorothy and her husband Charlie enjoyed to travel. They made trips to Europe, Alaska, the Caribbean, and to Ft Myers, Florida each winter. She enjoyed knitting, collecting sea shells, doing crosswords and following her favorite local sports teams including the Boston Red Sox and Providence College basketball Friars.

Calling hours will be on Friday September 28, 2012 from 4-7pm at O'Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring Street Newport, RI. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday at St. Joseph's Church, 5 Mann Avenue Newport, RI at 9am. Burial followed at St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name may be made to Village House Nursing Home, 70 Harrison Avenue Newport, RI or St. Joseph's Church, 5 Mann Avenue, Newport, RI.
