Thomas P. “Chic” Murphy, 64, of Hamond Street, Newport, died peacefully at Heatherwood Nursing Home on Nov. 10, 2012.
Born in Newport, he was the son of the late Joseph C. and Eileen W. Murphy. Chic was a former communicatant of St. Joseph’s Church on Broadway. He was a 1968 graduate of Middletown High School. He then attended St. Francis’ College in Biddeford, ME, from where he was conscripted and served in two countries in Southeast Asia.
He returned to begin a stellar career as a “Chancellor of Chain Links” for 14 years at D&D Fence. He then progressed as custodian of the Newport School Department at Rogers High School.
Chic was an avid member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Newport Rugby Football Club. He was an enthusiast of the Boston Bruins, Freddie Mercury & Queen.
Chic was predeceased by his brother, Steven J. “Mal” Murphy of Newport. He leaves behind two sons, Patrick C. Murphy and Justin M. Murphy both of Newport. He also leaves behind his former wife, Tina Marie Murphy-Reynolds.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday November 14, 2012 at St. Augustin’s Church, Carroll Avenue Newport at 10am. Burial will be private.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 4-7 pm at the O’Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring Street, Newport.
