Sarah Josephson, 88, formerly of Newport, died Friday, November 16, 2012 at the Kent Regency Center in Warwick. She was the wife of the late Arthur Josephson, D.D.S.
Born in Havana, Cuba on February 15, 1924. She was a daughter of the late Harry and Eva (Beimel) Perelman,
Sarah, her sister and her parents immigrated to New York from Cuba in 1928. She studied Social Work at New York University and worked as an executive secretary for the Essex House Hotel and for a professional sports uniform company in the Empire State Building. She married her husband Arthur in 1963 and moved to Newport. She worked at several real estate agencies over her career including as broker for Newport Real Estate, which she owned. She retired in 1998.
While living in New York Sarah volunteered for the Lighthouse for the Blind, translating books into Braille. She was a devoted member of Touro Synagogue in Newport since 1963.
Sarah is survived by her son Daniel Shapiro of Jamestown, a daughter Ellen Josephson of Milburn, NJ and a sister Eileen Joselow of Boca Raton, Florida and 3 grandchildren Gregory Shapiro, Rachel Miller and Gabrielle Miller.
A Graveside Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012 at 1pm in Beth Olam Cemetery, Wyatt Road in Middletown, Rhode Island
