John D. Lynch

John Doyle Lynch, 84, of Newport, RI, died Thursday, December 6, 2012 at home. He was the husband of the late Veronica “Roni” (Shea) Lynch. Born in Newport on May 20, 1928, he was the son of the late Timothy E. and Johanna C. (Doyle) Lynch.

In 1946, Jack left high school and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Japan as part of the WWII occupation force. After being discharged, he returned to Rogers High School and graduated in 1948. After high school he began his career as a lithographer at the Naval War College. He worked there until his retirement in 1983. He was also co-proprietor of the former Lynch and Shea Lithography Company.

As a boy and young man, he was an avid sailor, racing Newport Dory and Indian class sailboats. Later in life he enjoyed gardening and early morning daily walks at Sachuest Point and Beach.

He is survived by his children: John Doyle Lynch, Jr. and his wife Patricia of Newport; Sharon V. Lynch of Newport; and Lizbeth S. O’Donnell and her husband Michael of Portsmouth, RI; his daughter-in-law Deborah Heffernan Lynch of Newport; his grandchildren: Terrence Lynch and his wife Sara of Edmonds, WA; Daniel Lynch and his wife Barrie-Ann of Ware, MA; Jason Lynch and his wife Cara of Portsmouth, RI; Ryan Lynch and his wife Jessica of Tiverton, RI, Johanna Lynch of Newport; and Timothy Lynch of Newport; his great-grandchildren: Luke Lynch, Daphne Lynch, Brianna Lynch, and Genevieve Lynch. He was the father of the late Brian T. Lynch and the grandfather of the late Erika E. Lynch.

Services are omitted at his request. No flowers please.
